Sexual Evolution

Has sex changed?

Nowaday it is not as much of a taboo as it used to be. It's used in songs, shown in movies, etc.
But not too long ago it was a ''forbiden'' topic. What changed?
Sex always will be sex, but the culture around it has changed. In today's media it's splashed everywhere: billboards, movies, songs, even the very phones your children hold.
Here are some disturbing statistics as well as what you need to understand in today's climate of raising kids in a hyper-sexualized society
  • Pornography: Over 40 percent of users under age have been exposed to it, many accidentally. It is one of top ten search terms by them, coming in at number six.
  • Entertainment:  92 percent of songs on the Billboard charts are about sex. Movies and TV shows elude to a wide range of relationships that aren't role model material. As a matter of fact, they actually encourage casual hookups or other types of sexual encounters that could potentially be harmful.
  • Dating apps: With the rise in hookup apps, such as Tinder, more teens are turning to them instead of learning how to have actual relationships. They haven't formed a bond of friendship or love before engaging in bed hopping or hooking up.
 Can sex be addictive?

Yes. It can, but in more than one way.
Relationship counselling service Relate describes sex addiction as any sexual activity that feels "out of control". This could be sex with a partner, but it can also mean activities such as pornography and others.
Some people may also have a dependency on sex and sexual activity to numb any negative emotions and difficult experiences. This can have a negative effect on the person's quality of life and on those around them.
